    WELCOME TO SALLY’S DIARIES:
Before I get started describing this group of ephemera I want to let you know that I have a podcast. I’ve taken some diaries from my private collection and shared them on our podcast called “Diary Discoveries.” We’ve got 31 episodes out now and you can find it on all the usual podcast venues. So if you enjoy the compelling and adventurous stories from vintage diaries then please check it out.
This large lot is just miscellaneous pieces that I’ve gathered over the years and so I’m selling them as one lot. Some of the are from the same family but most are just separate pieces. I have not read any of the diaries. I’m leaving that for the winning bidder to discover any secrets.
I say that there’s 111 pieces in this group and that’s because 95 of those pieces are vintage photos. Some photo postcards, some postcards, some snapshots, etc. All vintage and all miscellaneous. Some of the postcards do have writing on them. The rest of the pieces are as follows and in no particular order…..
1.) One fabulous scrapbook containing 115 pages of theater and entertainment scrap dating from 1900-1906. Although this is not in real good shape, it contains some amazing pieces and all are pasted to the pages. There are theater programs, fliers, magazine cut-outs and more. The theater’s they represents are all in New York (I believe) and some of them are: Carnegie Hall, Harlem Opera House, Daly’s, Garden, Knickerbocker, Wallack’s, Irving Palace, Metropolitan Opera House, Grand Opera, Manhattan, Majestic, Vaudeville, Carnek, Cateron, Madison Square, Colonel, Hudson, Broadway, New Amsterdam, Lycern and more. And any actor or actress during that era are probably represented in this scrapbook. It’s large too measuring about 12 1/2” x 10”.
2.) Marbled book with handwritten “fact” and miscellaneous notes and also newspaper scrap pasted to the pages. Some of the titles on the pieces are: Christ on the Battlefield, The Panama Canal, The Life of Lord Kitcherner, Christian Science, The Russian and British Empires, Incense, and more. I believe this journal dates from the early 1900’s.
3.) Another thick scrapbook that was once a ledger but scrap is pasted to many of the pages. There are still handwritten entries without scrap and many of them are vintage recipes. Early 1900’s. There are also handwritten genealogy pages with the Fred and Alba Loomis family and also the Hale family. I saw Lebanon as a place mentioned.
4.) A beautiful (although in poor shape) Friendship album from the 1840’s. The album belonged to Margaretta R. Hoover and there are 61 sentiments inside. The cover is very worn and coming off and a few pages are torn, but not many. It is from a Moravian Seminary then called Lititz Seminary for girls. It is now called Linden hall and is located in Lititz Pennsylvania. It measures about 7” x 8”. Beautiful scrip inside from friends, family and fellow students.
5.) A 1920 handwritten diary that’s about ¾ full. Couldn’t find a name and is in fair shape
6.) Four diaries from 1891, 1894, 1897 and 1898. They belonged to C.A. Mayford, they are about ½ to ¾ full of writing but the 1894 diary is empty. All in good shape
7.) 1903 Diary that’s full and has long entries. Not sure of owner
8.) Scrapbook placed on the pages of an old book that was titled “Blair’s Rhetoric”. The book looks like an early 1800’s book but the scrap is mid to later 1800’s I believe. This is in poor shape.
9.) Blank vintage tablet (probably early to mid 1900’s) with Jesus and a disciple on the front. A handwritten name is at the top on the cover and reads, “Mr. Sam Haskins 1611 N. Mich. Pittsburg, KS”
10.) 2 Vintage notebooks from the 1930’s. One has handwritten expenses in it the other is blank.
11.) Small 1945 diary with that’s about ¾ full of entries.
12.) Large scrapbook in poor shape but it does have some amazing pressed flowers inside. Eleven pages and about ½ of those are the flowers. This measures about 11 1/2” x 17”.
Well there you have it. I will send this media mail as it’s almost a 10 lb. Box.
