Koranic Scroll on Paper,
62 inches long and 11.5 inches wide.
The scroll begins with a beautiful painting of the
Ka`bah
, the structure which all Muslims must turn their faces to during their prayers and all pilgrims must circumamulate seven times during their
Hajj
ritual.
After the painting, there are seven compartments; each has a calligraphic quotation primarily from the Koran, written in a different animal form. The animals used here are birds, fishes, and one camel.
The first compartment reads:
إِنَّهُ مِن سُلَيْمَانَ وَإِنَّهُ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Indeed, it is from Solomon, and it is in the name of God the Compassionate, the Merciful [Koran: Chapter 27, Verse 30]
The second one: Itentical with the first one.
The third one: Is the
basmala
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God. the Compassionate, the Merciful.
The fourth one: Is identical with the first
The fifth one:
لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِين
There is no god bu You. Glory to you. Indeed, I was among the transgressors (Koran 21:80)
The sixth one: An invocation for help fro the Prophet Muhammad and Imam `Ali.
The seven one: Identical to numbe six. Here the calligrapher inserted his name in the middle of the picture Muhammad Khan.
Around the compartments, there are many qutations from the Koran in
thuluth
script including the Ayat al-Kursi [the verse of the Throne]. All this within arabesque floral design in gold and color.
