    Description

    Wisdom Creek Trading Company
Howdy Everybody and Welcome to Wisdom Creek! Today I want to tell you about our Brand New Car Emergency Escape Tools. It’s a Great Day here on Wisdom Creek and we don't drive without these; So saddle up and let’s get started!
We REALLY need to talk about this tool, because there are some scenarios that aren't discussed when it comes to this tool. There are some pitfalls to avoid.
First, let me say that these tool are "Required" equipment in all of our company vehicles here at Wisdom Creek. Plus, we have provided them for everyone who drives in our family, and every employee and everyone of their immediate family members that drive. That's how much we believe in them.
You never know when you may end up in a rollover accident where you or someone else is trapped. Or an accident that causes the interior cabin of your car to change dimensions making access to the seatbelt release inaccessible. There have been documented cases where this type of tool has freed occupants of cars that have ended up in water. (Here in the southwest lakes and rivers are few and far between but, we routinely lose lives when people are trapped in flashfloods, irrigation canals and cars that end up in swimming pools.)
It's HOT here in the desert southwest and we lose Babies and pets every year when they are left in cars either by mistake or neglect. It's encouraged by our Police and Fire departments to break out a window to free a trapped child left in a hot car. You can't easily break a car window with ordinary objects. That's why this tool was designed. Car temperatures here can reach well above 140 Fahrenheit in a very short period of time so there is no time to waste.
That's why everyone at Wisdom Creek has one in their car. The boss told us and I quote: "You may never need to have this tool with you to save your own life. But maybe, just maybe, a small infant may need you to have this tool with you to save their life." I definitely don't want to be the "helpless" guy pacing nervously waiting for the fire truck to arrive. ESPECIALLY When the life of a small child is at stake.
Before I get too deep into anything else let's describe the tool:
The tool is T shaped and has steel hammer heads on both sides. One side has a protective cover over a pointed tip. That tip is the side you use to strike any side or rear window causing the glass to shatter. That tip generates pin point contact with the glass transferring all of the energy to a very small place. That causes the tempered glass to shatter. As these windows are made of tempered safety glass they will not have sharp shards like other types glass but, use caution and shield your eyes just the same. Some windows will have a film which will keep the window partially in place. Just continue to use the hammer to break away the window until the opening you need is achieved. Now note that this is for side and rear windows. Windshields are totally different and won't break with this hammer. If you must escape through the windshield use both feet to kick it out.
The tool is just under 3 inches wide and just over 5 inches long. It is lightweight and easy to use. The handle has a razor sharp blade in a slot designed for cutting seatbelts. Just place the blade at a 90 degree angle to the belt and rock it up and down as you pull very hard. Pumping or rocking the handle will help the blade cut through the belt. Remember, these belts are designed to hold you in a crash so they are tough.
The tool is bright orange for visibility and has a triangle shape inlaid with Holographic or "prism" tape. This type of tape reflects light in low light conditions making the tool easier to spot in the dark.
Now let's get down to the "Nitty Gritty". I want to talk about the things the other guys won't.
This tool comes with a mounting bracket. Throw it away. It will not hold the tool if you are in a collision or rollover. The physics that take place in such a crash will dislodge the tool and it will fly about the interior of your car like a pinball machine. Wanna know where it will end up? Next to your cellphone. (Which will be lodged "somewhere" in the interior of your car, the location of which is anyone's guess.) I can guarantee you the odds are your cell phone and this tool will not be visible to you or within your reach. Don't think your glove compartment or center console is going to be secure when things go wrong. They'll likely pop open and hurl the contents through space.
For that reason, you need to place this tool where you can get to it in the worst of circumstances. Those would be: 1.) You are injured or unconscious. In which case the storage location of this tool should also be accessible to your passenger. (I know in your imaginary scenario you were the hero but, in real life you may be the victim and your passenger has to be the hero.)
2.) You are going to be under a HUGE amount of stress and possibly physical distress. That's why where you keep this tool is important! Once you find that place be sure you PRACTICE retrieving the tool. Do it blindfolded and with someone timing you. The whole while they should be annoying you any way they can to simulate stress. Perhaps a blaring radio? Let the kids yell and scream from the backseat They'll love it.
So where do you mount it? I'll tell you that I am kinda obsessive about all things concerning safety and security. I found a nylon flashlight belt holster that fit this hammer; so I had a local upholstery shop sew some Velcro straps to it so it lays parallel to the seat belt strap and attaches to the chest side of the strap. That way it is always at about chest height for me. (But I told you I was a fanatic. I keep a flashlight and Pepper spray there as well.) That wasn't cheap but, that's me.
A quicker cheaper and easier way to mount the tool securely is to find the appropriate bag or case, that has either handles or a belt loop, to keep the tool in. Then get yourself a light weight Carabineer to clip it to something stationary or you could use zip ties to secure it to a stationary place.
Better to have one and not need it, than to need one and not have it.
