2 Antique 1889 English Gilt Sterling Silver 17th Century Dutch Form Candlesticks
Presented is a very fine quality pair of late Victorian, English sterling silver candlesticks made by George W. Adams of London in 1889. This pair is done in the style of a pair of Dutch candlesticks from the 1600s. The bases are deeply hand chased with flowers and sinuous leaves and the stems are done in a barley twist form. The ruffle edged bobeches are removable and solid sterling silver. This pair is done in a deep gold wash and the undersides have been re-felted. The candlesticks are weighted but the sterling silver is very thick.
Each base and bobeche are marked with the leopard's head for London, the lion passant for sterling silver, a duty mark of Queen Victoria's head, a date letter O for the year 1889 and a maker's mark for George W. Adams.
This pair is in excellent overall condition. The gold wash is brighter on one of the pieces. There are no damages and no repairs.
The base of each candle stick measures 4 3/8 inches in diameter and each one is 5 1/2 inches tall.
Weight: 986 grams or 34.7 ounces.
