    1803 EARLY AMERICAN DOCUMENT ON HAND LAID PAPER WITH PAPERMAKERS WATERMARK & A PAPERED OVER SEAL. Bristol County. Commonwealth of Massachusetts. To the Sheriff of our County of Bristol or his Deputy Greeting. You are hereby required in the Name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to make diligent search within your Precinct for the body of Anson Hathaway of Taunton in our County of Bristol Labourer and his apprehending you are to have before one our Justices of the Peace for said County that he may become bound by way of Recognizance with two Sufficient Sureties for his personal appearance at our next Court of General Sessions of the peace to be holden at Taunton within and for our said County of Bristol on the Monday next preceeding the Second Tuesday of September next, then and there in our said County to answer to an Indictment found by the Grand Jury for the body of the County of Bristol who upon their Oath present that the said Anson on the 13

    day of September last past with force and Arms at Berkley in said County and made AN ASSAULTUPON ONE HANNAH PAUL then and there in being in the peace of God and said Commonwealth and her the said Hannah DID BEAT BRUISE KICK WOUND &

    then and there did the said Hannah against the peace and further do and receive what shall be enjoined her by said Court and not depart without Licence thereof and you are alike required to Summon Hannah Paul, Wealthy Paul, Jerusha Chace Ephraim French and, John Paul to appear at said Court and give Evidence of what they know relating to the premises – Failnot and make return hereof with your Doings hereon into said Court dated at Taunton the 25

Richmond so that he may become bound by way of Recognizance for his personal appearance at the next Court of General Sessions of the Peace to be holden at Taunton in and for the County of Bristol.
