    Colonial American Document of 1708 is on Hand Laid Paper & Has A Papermakers Watermark.  Bristol: Memorandum That on the 13th Day of July 1708 Before Natha Byfield  Esq.  & other of His Majesty's Justices of The Peace in Court of Quarter Sessions in Bristol in The County of Bristol Came & Appeared John Reed Jr. of Freetown in The County of Bristol Within & For the County of Bristol & became of Freetown Bound for Thomas Terry in the Sum of 10 Pounds Currant Money & The sd Thomas Terry in The Like Sum of 10 Pounds Currant Money of New England Which they Severally Acknowledge To Be Due and Owing To Our sd Sovereign Her Heirs or Successors To be Levied on There Goods Chattels Lands & Tenements if Default be Made of The Condition Underwritten. The Condition of this Present Recognizance is such that Whereas the above bound Thomas Terry Who is Admitted and allowed TO KEEP A COMMON INN  and To Use for The COMMON SELLING OF STRONG DRINK &  sd by Retayl Shall Do Well  for the space of One Whole Year & for Consideration for His Draught Cause To be Paid unto unto James Taylor Treasure and Receiver General of Her Majesty's Province of The Massachusetts Bay in New England or to her Successor in sd Office The sum of 30 Shillings in Manner & Form Following  Currant Money as sd as a Consideration For His draft In Manner & Form as Followeth in The Form That is to say 15 Shillings Part Thereof on or before The 29th Day of December  Next and 15 Shillings The Remaining Part Thereof at or Before The 29th Day of June Next After then This recognizance & Every  Clause Therein   to be Voyed and of Non Affect But if default be Made then Stand & Abide and Be in Full Force Strength and virtue Acknowledged in Court Attest John Cary Clerk  On Verso it States Thomas Terry For His Draught  1708   6 1/4 x 7 3/4" .85 for 1st Class Mail  Satisfaction Always Guaranteed.
